Today is Thomas Jefferson's Birthday!
Happy Birthday
President Jefferson!

Born:  April 13, 1743 at Shadwell, the family farm in Albemarle County, Virginia

Died:  July 4, 1826
at Monticello, VA.

This was exactly 50 years after the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.  Jefferson had written the first draft.
As "Father of the University of Virginia" Jefferson insisted the following "branches of learning" become part of the university curriculum:
III.     Mathematics, pure:
          Algebra,
          Fluxions.
          Geometry, 
               Elementary,
               Transcendental.
          Architecture,
               Military, Naval.		 IV.     Physico-Mathematics:
          Mechanics
          Statics
          Dynamics
          Pneumatics
          Acoustics
          Optics
          Astronomy
          Geography
