Raphael ~Genius of high Renaissance painters~ Born: April 6, 1483 in Urbino Died: April 6, 1520 in Rome on his 37th birthday Mathematicians celebrate Raffaello Sanzio -
Raphael - for
including Pythagoras, Euclid,
Ptolemy, Zeno and possibly Archimedes and Hypatia in his famous
masterpiece, The School of Athens.
Moreover, in using the highly
geometrical concept of
"perspective" Raphael placed his
focal point between Plato and Aristotle. The semi-circular
archways and organization of figures on the steps draw the eyes of the
viewer to a
point in the distant background. Art historians have written that
in so doing, this pioneering
fresco changed the way people
looked at art.
