Knuth
has been a prolific innovator in both mathematics and computer science,
and has made many important contributions to both fields. At least
two of these contributions have had a profound effect on their respective
disciplines. His set of books, The Art of Computer Programming,
has become a classic in that field and his development of
the TeX typesetting system changed forever the way that mathematics
is communicated and published.
