Today is Evelyn Boyd Granville's Birthday!
 Happy Birthday
Dr. Granville!

Born:  May 1, 1924
in Washington, DC

You have been a wonderful role model for the students of America.

Dr. Granville was one of the earliest African-American women to receive a Ph. D. (Yale) in mathematics.

Marjorie Lee Browne (U. of Michigan) and Evelyn Granville were both awarded doctorates in 1949.

In 1943 Martha Euphemia Lofton Haynes, though born in 1890, managed to complete her Ph. D. in mathematics while working full time in demanding jobs.  These included being Chair of the District of Columbia School Board.

These three women were true pioneers in the finest American tradition.
