Kemeny will
probably be best remembered as the creator, together with Thomas Kurtz,
of the BASIC programming language. But Kemeny has several other claims
to fame. In the 1950s, he helped develop the math department at Dartmouth
College, in the 1970s he served as president of this institution, and
at the end of that decade he was appointed by President Carter to
head the commission investigating the Three Mile Island nuclear disaster. |
